On the ground floor there’s a central wide hallway with a ‘wing’ to either side; to the left is the dining room with a huge bay window giving views over the gardens and the sea, the sea. There are 2 big wooden tables that can be joined together to seat you all for those big happy celebration feasts – push the boat out (excuse the pun!) and book one of our recommended private chefs to make it extra special. An inner hall leads to the large kitchen and utility area, very well equipped to take the stress out of your holiday cooking.
Right of the main hallway is the sitting room overlooking the gardens and the pool, with the sea just beyond. Let the coastal breeze drift in on warmer days; when it’s chilly out, light the wood-burner and comfy up together for a family movie night.
A short passage leads to the TV room – we think of it as a Kids Zone because it tends to be where the younger folk hang out watching TV or playing games. Doors open onto the garden and again, you can see the sea.
The charm of the delectable Arts & Crafts character of The Beach House is everywhere, evoking all the luxury and feels of the era. How the light slips through the leaded windows and bounces softly in all directions, letting the sunshine in; the rich wooden floors, each wing with its own staircase, those spectacular coastal views from almost all of the bedrooms, all the nooks and crannies where children can play and hide – it’s like days of yesteryear, spending the summer holidays in your favourite great aunt’s house by the sea.
On the first floor, to the left are Bedrooms 1-4, straight ahead is Bedroom 5, and to the right are Bedrooms 6-8; for more information see Floorplans/Rooms. The Bedrooms are named after local landmarks, sand banks and features of the River Exe; they are all individually finished, each in a different colour with a look and feel of its own. 8 are ensuite, with bathrooms kept simple and fresh, echoing the coastal location. On the top floor of the house are Bedrooms 9 and 10, both with stunning views across to Lyme Bay
Outside, the private gardens are such a beautiful space. This is somewhere to completely unwind, to eat and to play, to relax.
